How many times have your youth come up to you during afterschool programming and say, “I’m hungry, can I get a snack?†With the help of our Healthy Choices, Healthy Children Nutrition Edition, you can answer with some delicious, healthy, easy to make snack ideas. If you have the kitchen space, have the youth get the experience of preparing, making, and their eating own food.Here are two recipes from the Nutrition Edition:Note to instructors: Be sure to have adequate supervision for kids when using kitchen utensils and appliances. Also, be aware of any potential food allergies kids under your supervision may have. Pita Pizzas (2 servings)Ingredients1 whole Grain PitaCheese slices (mozzarella or cheddar)Tomato slices or pizza SauceMake:Place your pita on the plate.Add the cheese slices and tomatoes to the pita.Put the plate inside microwave and close the door. Set microwave for 20 to 30 seconds. (Please stay with kid during microwaving so they do not burn themselves when they remove pizza).Cut the pizza into 4 slices! Peanut Butter Boats (4 servings)IngredientsCelery sticksPeanut butterRaisinsMake:Wash the celery and use a knife to cut into 4 pieces (about 5 inches long) on the cutting board.Spread the peanut butter on the celery sticks.Add raisins and it is ready to serve! November is also Good Nutrition Month.
