Dr. Mohan Suntha: Power of Impact in the Community
Dr. Mohan Suntha, President and Chief Executive Officer of the University of Maryland Medical System (UMMS), oversees 29,000 team members as part of a nationally recognized health system that delivers 25% of all hospital-based healthcare in the state of Maryland. With more than 150 locations, including a network of academic, community and specialty hospitals, Dr. Suntha is committed to helping people live their best health in life. “While adhering to the basic tenants of the medical system and healthcare, UMMS serves as an anchor institution whose responsibilities extend beyond the walls of a hospital and into the community,” he said.
As a dedicated Cal Ripken, Sr. Foundation Board member since 2021, he has been a great advocate for health and wellness in underserved communities. He has championed our national STEM Center program and helped us to give thousands of kids throughout Maryland access to year-round STEM education where it doesn’t currently exist. To date, we have 625 STEM Centers in 25 states that are equipped with the latest technology, educational STEM products, curriculum/lesson plans, teacher training, and furniture. Everything a school or youth-organization needs to implement a successful STEM program.
Over the last three years, UMMS has supported the expansion of the Ripken STEM Center program in communities served by the System throughout Maryland, including investments in the creation of 10 new STEM Centers.
The Cal Ripken, Sr. Foundation is proud to have such an invested charitable partner in UMMS and so grateful for their support. To learn more about our STEM Center Initiative and youth programming, go to
