Our second annual Ripken Foundation STEM Challenge saw five STEM Centers creating solutions for wildlife to safely coexist with a newly constructed highway. Each center came up with a unique solution to ensure the wildlife and traffic were not impacted. Three semi-finalists presented their solutions to a panel of judges including a prototype of how they envisioned their solution helping the animals and cars exist in the same ecosystem. Our winning team, SpringSpirit from Houston, TX designed a solution that allowed animals to travel on a bridge over the highway using ditches to direct them towards the crossing. Congratulations to SpringSpirit and all of our competitors on a fantastic job well done. Thanks to Battelle for making our competition possible!
