The Cal Ripken, Sr. Foundation (CRSF) announced today a collaboration with Ciena to install a new STEM Center at D.A. Hulcy STEAM Middle School in Dallas.
Over 500 6th to 8th grade students will have access to fun and educational STEM technology and activities, including a 3D printer, Sphero BOLT, and Snap Circuits.
“We are incredibly grateful to Ciena for the generous gift. This collaboration is a powerful testament to what can be achieved when we work together to empower the next generation of innovators,” said Steve Salem, President and Chief Executive Officer. “By teaming up with Ciena, we will be able to provide opportunities for students to explore science, technology, engineering, and math in ways that inspire creativity and curiosity. We look forward to seeing the lasting impact this collaboration will have on our community.”
Providing at-risk communities with access to STEM education is a major priority of CRSF. Over the last eight years, CRSF has developed a comprehensive, evidence-based STEM Center program that can be implemented in elementary, middle school, or youth-serving organization with successful validated qualitative and quantitative outcomes year-round.
“Ciena is proud to support the development of a new STEM Centre in D.A. Hulcy STEAM Middle School” said Daisy Gao, Social Impact Program Manager at Ciena. “We are dedicated to improving access to technology, connectivity, and STEM education for students around the world. This initiative is one more step toward closing the digital divide, and we are pleased to take it alongside the Cal Ripken, Sr. Foundation.”
To date, CRSF has completed 604 STEM Centers in 25 states, impacting 260,000 students and trained over 15,000 teachers/mentors.
