This past week we had an awesome week of #CRSFCamp! Campers this week came from all corners of this beautiful country - California, Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Illinois, Maine, Maryland, Minnesota, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Texas, Virginia, and the District of Columbia! Many of our campers had many "firsts" here at camp - first time on a zip line, first time playing baseball, first time in Maryland, first time leaving their home state, and for a good number of our campers it was their first time flying! Many thanks to Southwest Airlines for flying our campers here in style! This week was such a success thanks to all of our volunteers - both chaperones and our law enforcement mentors who helped teach the kids essential skills both on and off the field. This week is not possible without the support of our sponsors who make it possible for this incredible experience - thank you to Rawlings, Under Armour, BSN Sports, and Walmart for providing the supplies necessary to equip our campers for the gear to make it a successful camp!
Our campers refined their baseball skills each morning, practicing what it takes to make the plays, hits, and runs that lead to success on the field. Each afternoon, campers had the opportunity to listen to presentations from various law enforcement agencies. This week campers met horses from the Baltimore Police, The Emergency Services Team, Marine Unit, and Aviation Unit from Prince George's County Police, K-9 Unit with Harford County Sheriff's Office, and the Community Services Division with the Aberdeen Police Department. After an exciting day at Cal, Sr.'s Yard in Aberdeen, campers return to the campground for a fun afternoon of swimming, rock climbing, ropes courses, and for some campers - more sports!
We closed each day out with an evening program instilling some life lessons into our campers. Our first evening program was Van Brooks who spoke to our campers about how being a student athlete means you are just as much a student as you are an athlete, and not putting all your eggs in one basket. Our second evening we were visited by our friends from the Travis Manion Foundation inspiring our campers to be leaders and stepping up when others don't. Our final evening - we let the campers have a little fun, and had a dance competition! At the end of our last night together, we awarded our campers of the week, and our team of the week! Congratulations to all our winners, but all of our campers are winners to us! Every single camper had some victory this week, and we are so proud of everyone!
