As I make the hour and some odd drive north to North East, Maryland, I mentally prepare myself for my first week at CRSF camp. I have absolutely no idea what to expect. People keep telling me that it’s going to be a lot. It’s going to be tiring. It’s going to be a wild. It’s going to be kids everywhere, but most importantly it’s going to be hands down the greatest thing that you’ve ever experienced in your life.
I make the turn into the overnight camp facility, and I’m ready--well, at least as ready as I can be for the unknown. Groups from six different states are flying/driving in today to take part in this adventure with me, so at least I won’t be the only one who is clueless about what’s in store for them.
Today’s the check-in day where we all get settled in for the week, and try and figure each other out. For the kids who come to town, we assign them to cabins and give them sweet Under Armour gear to wear all week and take home with them. Once they settle in, we then break them up into teams with different kids so they get the chance to meet new friends!
Later in the day, I got the chance to talk to two girls from Atlanta, Georgia, and I ask them what they are most looking forward to this week:
“What I’m looking for doing this week is swimming and rope course.” - Naia
“During this week, what I am looking forward to is the swimming pool and going to the baseball field. Also, I hope this time here is awesome.” –Miyone
I’ll do my best to make this week awesome for these girls and for the rest of the kids here, and I can’t wait to see what else is in store for everyone here at #CRSFCamp.
Rookie out.
