Finding Her Voice, Shaping Her Future

For years, the Cal Ripken, Sr. Foundation has partnered with SpringSpirit in Houston, Texas to provide young people with access to sports, STEM education, mentorship, and leadership development opportunities. Through this long standing partnership, thousands of youth have been introduced to new experiences that help them build confidence and prepare for future success. Amy is one of those success stories.

Amy’s journey with the Foundation began in second grade through the Foundation’s Instructional Leagues. There, she was introduced to organized sports in an environment focused on skill development, mentorship, and personal growth. What started on the playing field would grow into a relationship with SpringSpirit and the Foundation that helped shape her confidence, leadership, and future aspirations.

As Amy grew, so did her involvement. She progressed from the Foundation’s Instructional Leagues into competitive softball, representing both SpringSpirit and her high school team. At the same time, she expanded her interests through the Ripken STEM Center, where hands on learning experiences encouraged her curiosity and exposed her to new possibilities beyond athletics.

“The Ripken Foundation programs introduced me to new fields and experiences that helped me better understand who I am and what I’m passionate about, giving me access to opportunities I may not have otherwise experienced,” Amy shared. “They fostered my curiosity, encouraged me to continue exploring my interests, and played an important role in developing my confidence and leadership.”

This fall, Amy will begin the next chapter of her academic journey at Dartmouth College. Her acceptance reflects years of hard work, determination, and a willingness to embrace new opportunities.

Amy’s story demonstrates what can happen when young people are given consistent support, meaningful opportunities, and a community that believes in their potential. Through a partnership that has invested in her growth for years, she discovered not only what she could achieve, but who she could become.
