For 25 years, the Cal Ripken, Sr. Foundation has empowered young people through mentorship and opportunity. Through Badges for Baseball where law enforcement officers and mentors help youth build confidence, develop life skills, and form positive relationships. In 2025, the program served more than 35,000 youth across 33 states and Washington, D.C.

Rodrigo experienced that impact firsthand.

Six years ago, Rodrigo joined the Prince George’s County Police Athletic League (PGCPAL) Badges for Baseball program after a traumatic event left him struggling both in school and in life. Through monthly program sessions, Ripken Summer Camps, and the support of mentors and law enforcement officers, he regained confidence and found a community that believed in him.

Before joining the program, Rodrigo had never played organized baseball. He went on to play throughout high school and earned honor roll recognition. He then returned to Badges for Baseball as a peer mentor, encouraging younger participants and sharing the lessons he learned.

Today, Rodrigo has graduated from high school and plans to enter a police cadet program, inspired by the mentors who helped shape his future. His journey is a powerful reminder that positive relationships and meaningful opportunities can help young people overcome adversity and achieve their goals.
