Inaugural College Season Kick-Off: Uncommon Coaches Benefiting Uncommon Athletes 2015
As the Cal Ripken, Sr. Foundation expands its footprint into the Dallas/Fort Worth area, we were excited to have held the Inaugural College Season Kick-Off: Uncommon Coaches Benefiting Uncommon Athletes event. Cal, Jr. joined some of the greatest coaches in football history in a panel discussion on all things college football, moderated by NBC 5 News sportscaster, Newy Scruggs. Attendees also enjoyed a delicious lunch before the special panel took the stage.
On July 16, 2015, the all-star panel included: Rice University, David Bailiff, Baylor University, Art Briles, Texas Tech University, Kliff Kingsbury, Southern Methodist University, Chad Morris, and Texas A&M, Kevin Sumlin.
All proceeds of this special event will go to benefit young athletes in one of our newest programs, UNCOMMON ATHLETE. Recognizing the unique status of athletes as leaders among their peers, the Cal Ripken, Sr. Foundation partnered with Colorado nonprofit, Rachel’s Challenge, to create this unique program that empowers and transforms young athletes to be positive teammates on and off the field. This season-long program includes an inspiring live presentation for teams, schools, and/or organizations; a guide for coaches to use with their athletes during 12 team sessions; grab and go lesson plans; and tips on coaching “The Ripken Way,” inspired by the Foundation’s inspiration, Cal Ripken, Sr.
The Cal Ripken, Sr. Foundation thanks all of our 2015 sponsors and friends for their dedicated support.
